Local Girl Attacked by Strays in Manikonda - Municipality Needs Action on Animal Control

Manikonda, is a haven we call home, a place where we dream of raising our children safely. But yesterday, that dream was shattered for a little girl in Khizna Enclave, right here in our own Manikonda Municipality. This innocent child, playing freely, was viciously attacked by a street dog. Her cries for help must have echoed through the lanes, a chilling reminder of the failings of our local bodies.

Where was the Security?

Thankfully, a kind old man intervened, rescuing the little one from further harm. But is this how it should be? Should the safety of our children depend on the presence of a stranger at the right time?

We all know the horrors of rabies. The six injections the little girl had to endure are a stark reminder of the potential consequences of this neglect. Can you imagine the physical and emotional trauma this child is facing?

Manikonda Deserves Better

Manikonda is a thriving community. We deserve better. We deserve proactive measures from our local municipality to ensure the safety of our residents, especially our children.

Here are some questions we need answers to:

  1. What is the Manikonda Municipality doing to control the stray dog population?
  2. Are there regular sterilization drives in place?
  3. Are there measures to ensure proper garbage disposal to avoid attracting strays?

What is an Animal Birth Control(ABC) Program?

An ABC program focuses on humanely controlling the stray animal population through sterilization (spaying and neutering). This reduces the number of unwanted animals and curbs aggressive behaviour often associated with mating instincts.

How do ABC Centres Help?

  •  ABC centres are dedicated facilities equipped to perform sterilization surgeries on stray dogs and cats.
  • Reduced Stray Population: By preventing reproduction, ABC programs significantly decrease the stray animal population over time. This directly translates to a lower risk of dog bites and attacks.
  • Healthier Animals: Spaying and neutering also improve the overall health of stray animals by reducing the risk of certain cancers and infections.
  • Improved Community Well-being: A controlled stray population leads to a safer and cleaner environment for everyone.

We Can't Wait for Another Bite

This incident cannot be a forgotten memory. We, the residents of Manikonda, need to hold our local bodies accountable.
