Lakshmi Priya Colony Residents Demand: No Road, No Tax!

The residents of Lakshmi Priya Colony find themselves caught in a frustrating predicament. Last year, the municipal administration dug up the colony’s roads to lay stormwater lines, but the promised restoration works remain elusive. As a result, the traffic from the main road has been diverted into the colony due to ongoing SNDP (Strategic Nala Development Programme) works aimed at redirecting the Pandem Vaagu nala.

Manikonda Municipality, however, has a different agenda. While they are unable to perform proper patchwork or lay a new concrete (CC) road, they are adamant about collecting property tax from the residents. Understandably, this has left the colony’s inhabitants disgruntled.

“Why should we pay taxes,” they ask, “when our roads resemble obstacle courses?”

The situation has escalated to the point where residents are contemplating drastic action. In the coming weeks, they plan to block the road for a few hours, drawing attention to their plight. But what exactly is the holdup?

Karthik, a resident of the Colony says "I reached out to Mounika, Assistant Engineer at Manikonda Municipality, seeking answers. She assured me that efforts are underway to address the road woes. The stormwater drain contractor will swing into action once the SNDP box drain work is completed". However, the timeline remains uncertain.

He also spoke with Vishalakshi, Deputy Executive Engineer at GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation), who shed light on the situation. According to her, the slab work will wrap up within a week. But here’s the catch: the drain work itself will take an additional two months. By then, election code restrictions will kick in, effectively stalling further progress.

For now, the residents of Lakshmi Priya Colony stand firm: “No road, no tax!” They await tangible improvements, hoping that their voices will be heard and their roads restored. Until then, the tax coffers remain untouched, a silent protest against the bumpy, neglected streets crisscrossing their neighbourhood.
